Cranbrook Bowls Club - Kent

About Us

Cranbrook Bowls Club - Clubhouse and GreenCranbrook Bowls Club can trace its history back to the 1870s. However, many of the towns players lost their lives fighting for their country in the 1914 - 18 war and this led to the re-formation of the club in 1921. Since the 1870s bowls has been played on greens at the Vicarage Lawn then Golford Road and finally, since May 1935, at our present location next to the "Ball Field" at the end of Jockey Lane car park off Carriers Road.

We are a warm and friendly club with a playing membership of 45, plus some 13 purely social (non-playing) members. The club has excellent facilities for disabled players; there are many seats around the green and in addition to the toilet for the disabled we have recently added a ramp to allow access for mobility cars and wheelchairs, a hand rail for the steps and lever taps in the ladies and mens changing rooms. Our members' ages have ranged from 9 years old up to our most senior member at 95 years of age.

Cranbrook's calendar includes just under 60 friendly fixtures with clubs spread around the Weald and beyond, all the way to Hastings and New Romney in the South and up to Pembury, Tonbridge and Bearsted in the North. In addition to the "friendlies" we have 1 team entered into the Weald League this year and 1 team in the Maidstone Mens Friday Triples League, playing competitively from mid May to the end of July.

It's a wonderful location set in the heart of the Weald in the glorious Kent countryside with the green active most evenings and weekend afternoons. Special gala events are run throughout the year when visitors are welcome to come and watch this quintessentially English pastime and if you join us for one of the open days or fun days you can have a go too!

The 2021 season starts on Sunday April 25th, with the Captain versus Chairman game.
